Practical Guide

How to Create an Electronic Signature for Free

You can make a reusable signature image in a browser without paying for a subscription. The right method depends on whether you need a visual mark or a complete signing workflow.

Create the Signature Image

  1. Open the free eSignature creator and choose Draw or Type.
  2. Draw with a mouse, trackpad, stylus, or finger, or enter your name and choose a cursive style.
  3. Review the mark at a practical document size.
  4. Download a transparent PNG. Draw mode also offers SVG.
  5. Insert the image into the intended document and review the completed file before sending it.

Draw or Type?

Drawing produces a mark based on your own movement and is usually the closest option to signing by hand. Typing is faster, consistent, and easier to read, but it creates a stylized name rather than recording your handwriting.

Signature Image vs Signing Workflow

A generator creates an image. It does not automatically verify a signer, obtain consent, protect a document from later changes, send signature requests, or create an audit trail. Those controls may matter for regulated, valuable, or disputed transactions.

  • Use a signature image only where the document process accepts it.
  • Use a dedicated signing platform when authentication or evidence is required.
  • Check local requirements or obtain professional advice for important transactions.

Protect the Download

Store the standalone image privately and share the completed document rather than the reusable signature file whenever possible. Confirm the document, recipient, and attachment before sending.
